Lynn
Stanford first accompanied ballet class in Dallas,
Texas at the request of the great ballerina, Margot
Fonteyn. This wonderful dancer taught Lynn the
proper way to accompany a dance class and encouraged
his improvisational style. In 1973 he moved to New
York City and spent twelve years as principal
pianist at the School of American Ballet. During
this "heyday of dance", Lynn played for all the
leading dancers of the time while creating a new
approach and style of music for ballet class.
In 1984, commissioned scores and tour engagements started to consume Lynn's time. He began a fifty city tour with "Baryshnikov and Friends" in which he composed and performed the opening dance selection. This event led to many commissioned scores for major dance companies including Twyla Tharp. The National Ballet of Canada and Broadway's "Boys of Winter". His movie and television credits include Sixty Minutes (CBS), 20/20 (ABC), the opening segment of "Baryshnikov in Hollywood", television programs in Brazil, Great Britain, and Denmark as well as the movie, "Dancer". From his Texas beginning, Lynn Stanford created a place for himself in the world of dance. His many recordings are a testament to his wonderful talent and serve as a reminder of the innovations he has brought to dance. |
